See the Fibria Sustainability Report at: www.fibria.com.br/rs2009.
Sustainability Report 2
For the production of the Sustainability Report, Fibria listened to the opinions of 85 people, chosen from amongst its customers, suppliers, NGOs and employees, in order to define the topics that are considered by these groups to be a priority for the company’s sustainability. Based on this survey, 10 leading topics emerged, to provide a platform for the report and for the company’s future strategy. Representatives of neighboring communities were also interviewed, and their statements published in the report. In the final stages of the preparation, three specialists in sustainability analyzed the report and their comments were also incorporated. Once it was complete, in order to ensure the alignment of the content with the GRI guidelines, the report was audited by Bureau Veritas Certification.

Expansion at Três Lagoas
Fibria will invest R$ 1.8 billion in augmenting its forest base in Mato Grosso do Sul State, as it brings forward, from 2016 to 2014, the construction of a second industrial unit in the region - the Três Lagoas II mill. To supply the new operation, the company will need 150,000 hectares of planted forest, 50% of which will be company-owned and 50% belonging to third parties, under leasing or partnership agreements. Fibria already has 30,000 hectares of plantations in excess of the operational requirements of the Três Lagoas I mill, and will complete the leasing of 45,000 hectares of land before the end of 2010. With the new mill in operation, Fibria intends to reach a total annual production capacity of 10.7 million tons of pulp by the year 2025.
Wood transportation record
In July, a new record was set for Fibria’s maritime transportation of wood from Caravelas (Bahia State) to Portocel, in Aracruz (Espírito Santo State). In the 41 trips carried out during the month, a total of 205,685 m3 of wood were transported. The system, set up by the company in 2003, uses 4 barges and 2 tugboats, and had established the previous highest volume of wood delivered to the Aracruz Unit back in May 2006, with a total of 200,252 m3. The distance between the Caravelas Maritime Terminal and Portocel is approximately 270 kilometers. Maritime transportation significantly reduces the number of trucks using the BR-101 highway, as 120 trucks would be required to handle the volume of wood carried by a single barge.
Fibria chairman recognized for outstanding leadership
José Luciano Penido, the chairman of Fibria’s Board of Directors, was included in a list of the 50 most influential figures in the global industry, selected by PPI Magazine, which is published by RISI, an institution that provides information for the forestry sector. Mr. Penido was ranked 4th among the world’s top CEOs. In 2009, he topped the list of chief executives and, for two years running (2007 and 2008) he was voted Latin American CEO of the year.
Records at Aracruz
The fiberline B at the Aracruz Unit (Espírito Santo State) set a monthly production record in July, with an output of 75,471 tons of pulp. This productivity increase was made possible by the maintenance services and improvements carried out during the programmed shutdown in April and May at the Unit’s three mills. The combined output of the mills during the month of July reached its third highest monthly production level, while the pulp quality index was at 99.6%, the highest level since November 2004.
Odor Perception Network
On July 24th, Fibria held the 38th Meeting of the Odor Perception Network (RPO), at the Aracruz Unit (Espírito Santo State). This gathering, which takes place twice a year, was attended by some 30 people, including RPO participants, and representatives of the company and IEMA (Espírito Santo State Institute for the Environment and Water Resources). The results for the first half of the year were presented and the participants discussed matters such as: odors and their effect on health, technological improvements, the contingency plan for handling emergencies, and the importance of the efforts of the 36 RPO volunteers. These meetings aim to enhance the exchanging of information and bring the company and the community closer together.
