| Fibria expansion is discussed with the community at Três Lagoas
The environmental studies for Fibria's expansion project in Três Lagoas (Mato Grosso do Sul state) were presented to around 600 people at a public hearing held on June 10th. This undertaking will raise the plant's annual production capacity from 1.3 million to 3.05 million tons of pulp. The expansion involves an investment of R$3.6 billion in the industrial area, and will employ around 3,000 people during the construction phase.
Fibria Sustainability executive in The Forests Dialogue
On May 31st and June 1st, Fibria's general manager for Sustainability and Corporate Relations, Carlos Alberto Roxo, participated in the Dialogue on Food, Fuel, Fiber and Forests, organized in Washington D.C. (USA) by The Forests Dialogue (TFD). The TFD is an organization devoted to dialogue, reflection and promoting collaborative solutions in the forest area. It has 25 members, including representatives from forestry companies, NGOs, universities and multilateral institutions.
New bleaching line inaugurated at the Aracruz Unit
On June 27th, Fibria inaugurated the new pulp bleaching line at the Aracruz Unit (Espírito Santo state), in an event that brought together roughly 200 people. The project, which involved an investment of R$110 million, enhances the mill's operational efficiency and environmental performance, while reducing the need for maintenance. The inauguration was attended by state and municipal authorities, directors of the company, representatives of the companies that were partners in the project, and members of the local community.
Fibria's chairman is honored by TNC
José Luciano Penido, chairman of Fibria's Board of Directors, was honored with a dinner on May 31st, organized by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) - one of the biggest organizations in the world devoted to the conservation of nature. Penido was recognized for his dedication to The Forests Dialogue and to the modernizing of the Brazilian environmental agenda. About 80 people, including businessmen and members of the third sector, participated in the event.
Fibria helps to restore a spring in Bahia
On May 27th, the company planted 750 seedlings of native trees around the spring feeding the Mina reservoir, in the municipality of Mucuri (Bahia state), in partnership with the community of the district of Taquarinha. The reservoir is the main source of water for irrigating the community vegetable gardens that supply the district.
A National Week for the Atlantic Rainforest
The National Week of the Atlantic Rainforest, held in Curitiba (Paraná state) between May 25th and 27th, included a talk by representatives of Diálogo Florestal (Forests Dialogue) - a discussion group formed by 32 forestry sector companies and 28 NGOs. Developing proposals for consensus between companies and environmentalists in regard to controversial points in the new Brazilian Forest Code was the topic of the lecture given by João Carlos Augusti, Fibria's manager for forest environment, and Carlos Alberto Mesquita, executive director of the Instituto BioAtlântica (IBio), who both sit on The Forests Dialogue's Steering Committee.
Mobilizing the community
The first meeting of the Active Citizenship Socioenvironmental Networks project, developed by Fibria in Capão Bonito (São Paulo state) for the purpose of training institutions and NGOs in the region in the development of projects and securing of funding took place on May 26th. Representatives of 16 local entities participated in the gathering, where the expectations of the community were aired.
A special program for the Environment Day
World Environment Day (June 5th) was celebrated over the course of a week by several of Fibria's Units. The distribution of native tree seedlings, exhibitions, lectures and the dissemination of printed information were all on an agenda devoted to developing environmental awareness.
Fibria awarded social seal in Espírito Santo state
On June 13th Fibria was presented by the Secretary of Justice of the State of Espírito Santo with the "Ressocialização pelo Trabalho" (Reintegration through Work) seal, awarded to companies that provide work opportunities to prison inmates or former inmates. Fibria purchases seedlings produced at the Viana Agricultural Penitentiary, which are donated to the state government and then passed on to farmers.
Fibria trains employees in the stewardship of certified wood
On June 13th, Fibria conducted training for the members of the harvesting team at the Posto da Mata Forestry Unit (Bahia state), addressing the necessary procedures to meet the demands of Controlled Wood (CW) certification and the SmartStep Program and to obtain Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.
Downtime at the Três Lagoas Unit
Between June 27th and July 6th Fibria's Três Lagoas Unit (Mato Grosso do Sul state) will carry out its second maintainance downtime, in order to preserve the safety of the processes and equipments, the level of productivity, the product quality and the level of environmental efficiency. Roughly 1,600 temporary workers were hired for this operation.

More than half the pulp produced in Brazil (59.5%) is exported. Firewood, charcoal and other items from this segment are in second place on the list of Brazilian forest products, with a 35.4% market share.
