Inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World

Fibria is the only Paper and Forestry sector representative in the 2011 portfolio of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI World), compiled after assessing the economic, environmental and social performance of 2,500 companies whose shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Eight Brazilian companies are in the latest Index, which is valid for the period 2011-2012.

Fibria receives Carbon Footprint 2011 certification

At the end of August, the company obtained certification confirming the veracity of the information and compliance with international standards of its greenhouse gas inventory. During 2010, Fibria captured from the atmosphere six times more carbon than it emitted, with its planted forests and conservation areas sequestering over 20 million tons of CO₂.

Fibria signs contract for sale of the Piracicaba Unit

On September 22^nd the company announced the signing of the contract for the sale of the Piracicaba Unit (SP) to Oji Paper, for US$313 million. The transaction should be finalized on September 29^th.

Sustainable growth is focus of global forum

On September 14^th, Fibria's chairman, José Luciano Penido, participated in the CDP Global Forum 2011, a conference that brought together 19 business leaders from around the world to discuss best practices for sustainable growth. The event was held by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and was broadcast live over the internet. Fibria was the only Latin American company represented at the global forum. Fibria's IT is amongst the 100 most innovative

For the third year running, Fibria Information Technology (IT) area has won the "The 100 Most Innovative in IT Use" award, in the category Industry: Paper, Pulp, Plastics and Rubber, presented by Information Week Brasil magazine. The survey is recognized by the market as a benchmark for how companies apply technology in benefit of business innovation.

FSC Friday promotes the forests and sustainable management

On September 30^th, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is holding its annual event in celebration of the forests, to encourage the responsible management of these biomes. With activities organized throughout the world, the event this year is celebrating this International Year of Forests with a call for people to demand the FSC seal on all wood and paper products. Fibria has 363,000 hectares of forests certified by FSC Brasil. See more on the site.

Did you know...

...that National Day of the Cerrado is celebrated on September 11^th? Brazil's second largest biome is rich in biodiversity and has already lost 50% of its natural vegetation cover. Fibria has helped to preserve more than 73,000 hectares of the Cerrado (data consolidated in September 2010) within its forested areas in the states of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul.
